Dark and Distorted as Hell (Hartford Advocate)
During the first part of the '90s there was a period when heavy music redeemed itself in the public eye for the sins of cock-rock, as already well-established serious-metal bands, including Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax had commercial breakthroughs. Suddenly a bunch of heavy bands from the '80s figured out how to combine hard and heavy with catchy and listenable, and even as Pearl Jam and Nirvana ascended, a handful of metal bands experienced their commercial peaks. But, except for those sneaky bastards Metallica, the remainder of the decade was a slide (back) toward obscurity.
