Move Over Elaine Benes!
I came into the livingroom, and found Stuart sitting on the floor bopping along to the rhythm of the Beatles “Octopus’ Garden,” while Liam, flailing his arms, and doing deep knee bends, while turning in circles, made sure to stay close to the stereo. As fourteen-month-olds go, I think ours is a pretty good dancer…move over Elaine Benes!

Midwest Bands
I called him because Screeching Weasel’s “How To Make Enemies And Irritate People” cd was in the car cd player. Angelica bought four of the Screeching Weasel cds that I didn’t have from Asian Man Records recently. I got into Screeching Weasel right before graduating from high school. A friend and I actually gave each other copies of their excellent cd “Wiggle” as birthday gifts (our birthdays are very close to each other, it was funny when we opened up the presents. When I met Brian I got him into Screeching Weasel, and he got me into Sludgeworth, and we started a band. I later lost interest in that stuff, and was kind of an uptight depressive jerk, and our band gradually fell apart. I remember when Brian got “How To Make Enemies…” though. It was a great record. Mike Dirnt from Green Day played bass and sang some back up vocals on it.

Uzbek Hip-Hop
Uzbekistan’s answer to Eminem, Uzbek Slim also has a page at the same site. Slim’s about page (also check out his photos) mentions that he and a few other guys are part of Uz Unit. They too, have a music.lib.ru site, and Umid’s site has more mp3s and links to other artists.

White Chicks
So, I reach into the mailbox today and grab the mail, some “have you seen me” crap and a magazine, it wasn’t mine, it was Micki’s so I didn’t pay much attention. On the elevator ride up I look at the cover, it’s Cosmo and I’m thinking, wow that is a cute white girl. I get to my place grab my keys, sling the mail on the counter and take off my coat and shoes, grab a stool and a beer and decide to find out who this cute white girl is. Some may have issue with my “cute white girl reference”, so that will be addressed in the second part of this blog. I scour the cover and low and behold it’s Beyonce Knowles. Now this isn’t the first time I’ve experienced this– it seems her ethnicity varies depending on what magazine she’s on or in. There’s white Beyonce and Black Beyonce. I’m not pointing the finger at her, I’m pointing the finger at Cosmo, the bible of European beauty, and Vanity Fair, etc., the magazines that make the girl up to look like a white woman to don the cover of their magazine. Now some may say Beyonce is damn near on the cusp– but being a yellow Negro in the know– there’s no way in hell she’s passing.

What's Wrong With Rap Music
About three years ago I got into rap and hip-hop when Usher was big on the scene. I think my husband thought this was an early (very early) mid-life crisis. Unfortunately for him, I still like that kind of music. I know most of players and I can’t wait to hear T-Pain’s latest. I’d tell you the title, but you wouldn’t approve.

Dove's Latest Salvo: Super Bowl Sunday
They want to reach at least 90 million people at once with a message about helping girls accept themselves, and being confident just the way they are. And since Janet Jackson so ably taught us that the Super Bowl is nothing if not a Program Suitable for the Whole Family (hence our Shock and Awe at her partial disrobing), what better opportunity to reach American girls and their parents than Super Sunday?
