Kurt Cobain's Birthday
Kurt Cobain would have been 39 on Monday, February 20. I am a little old for the Nirvana scene, but I was captivated by the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Eclectic
My MP3 player contains tracks by Vivaldi, Cyndi Lauper, Britney Spears, Marilyn Manson, and Nirvana. To say that my musical tastes are somewhat eclectic, would be a generous understatement.

Drifting Back To Me
Emo, heavy metal, classic, punk…I love it all, though I do have a tendency towards the newer stuff now - Blink 182, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stoneage….I’m also fond, selectively of SOAD, Drowning pool (cause I know what he’s talking about in ‘let the bodies hit the floor - that wasn’t my reaction to that little conversation in my head, but I’ve HAD that conversation with myself) I think I’ve been ignoring that part of me for a while now, sorta, just playing the same music over and over. Kenny prompted a hunt for music a while ago, oh…..actually over a year ago now, after he took me clubbing.

Kurt Cobain And Me
I just heard Nirvana’s ‘Come As You Are‘ on the radio. Kurt Cobain and I has had an intriguing relationship, primarily because I grew up in a strong diet of hard rock and heavy metal.

Reading 2005
Saturday was babyshambles and foo's. Surprising how enrgetic Doherty was (maybe i'm just being ignorant, but i'd have expecting a slow moving creature but there you go). Dave Grohl got behind the drums at reading for the first time in 13 years when he was there with Nirvana, and foo's brought the eveing to a rocking close. I would bang on about sunday as well but as you can propabably tell, i wrote all this down earlier for my friend in letter form with actual details about who i went with and listing every band i saw with stars for review, and i really can't be bothered to do it all again. I will say though that i missed the begining of Incubus and was a bit gutted and as always Marilyn Manson put on a show of epic proportions that should have crowned the weekend, but no! They have to roll out aging British rockers bloody iron maiden to cap things off. I didn't bother with them though and caught Futureheads and Bloc Party.

CD Review: Ray Lamontagne
Read the whole thing.Ray LaMontagne didn’t come to the idea of devoting his life to music at a young age like many do. He didn’t have an awakening when listening to Nirvana’s Nevermind for the first time, or when his father gave him a pair of drumsticks at age 3. In fact, LaMontagne’s decision to become a musician happened almost by accident once he was in adulthood, when he heard Stephen Stills’ “Tree Top Flyer” while working at a shoe factory. If he hadn’t had that chance encounter with Mr. Stills, perhaps he’d still be gluing soles to leather today.

The Spaghettie Incident?
When I first listened to the The Spaghetti Incident?
I knew that Guns N’ Roses
would soon be over. I was not clear as to what had ended the mystique that had started as the band that was destined to rule the world of rock and roll. I knew that egos were getting over inflated and that the drinking and partying was getting the best of the rock stars fulfilling the old cliché of that lifestyle. Guns N’ Roses like the Sex Pistols
of the last generation changed music for me. I remember listening to them and being mesmerized by their videos. I could only wish to be as cool as Slash, his guitar really made me appreciate the band. When the band split I felt a void that only Nirvana
filled, but then, after that no, other band has truly rocked for me.

Which Band Rocks Harder?
I’m a fan of both Audioslave and Velvet Revolver. I am a bigger fan of Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Guns N Roses
, and Stone Temple Pilots. Audioslave and Velvet Revolver are hybrids of all these bands. While Audioslave and Velvet Revolver don’t hold a candle to their predecessors, they still rock and are better than 99% of the shit that is on radio these days. Turn on any rock radio station these days and you’ll be bombarded with the putrid sounds of Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Blink 182, and other bullshit. The early 90s were a magical time in music history. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana
, and Alice in Chains ruled the roost. Music was at an all-time high.

Cibelle's Version of "About A Girl"
“About A Girl EP” is a DualDisc EP by Cibelle, featuring 4 new tracks and 4 videos. Her debut album established her as one of the most original and seductive young artists to come out of Brazil. “About A Girl” is Cibelle’s very personal rendering of an early Nirvana song. This video was directed by Elsa Dahmani.

Kurt Cobain Bio
Click through for full bio.Kurt Donald Cobain was the leader of Nirvana, the multi-platinum grunge band that redefined the sound of the nineties.
Cobain was a happy child, always smiling, not being able to wait till the next day. But then matters were made worse when Cobain's parent's divorced when he was seven and by his own account Cobain said he never felt loved or secure again. He became increasingly difficult, anti-social and withdrawn after his parent's divorce. Cobain also said that his parent's traumatic split fueled a lot of the anguish in Nirvana's music.

My Favorite Band Is Cooler Than Yours
Furthermore, there is nothing "indie-yuppie" about those bands, the bands have just become popular in the standard yuppie crowd. Nirvana was just as popular to the same crowd some years ago. The yuppie crowd likes anything that the people who are cooler than them supply them with, once they become comfortable with the music they will name drop the bands continuously to flex their street cred, it is the normal evolution.

Who's the Best Band of All Time?
And regarding Spin, I don't take time out in every post to remind you that Nirvana is the best band of all time, except when Radiohead is, and that Green Day is "saving rock". That's not to say that I won't start.

Concert Review: Pepper
One of the night's few surprises came with a short version of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which turned into an a cappella call-and-response playtime with the audience. There also was a sense of genuine camaraderie when the band brought up vocalist Josh Fischel of support band Bargain Music for a song.

Review: Nirvana DVD a candid view
"Nirvana: Nevermind -- Classic Album DVD" (Eagle Rock Entertainment) explores the band, the Seattle music scene that would be dubbed "grunge" and the making of the band's classic album "Nevermind." Lead singer Kurt Cobain took his own life, leaving us with drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic and an assortment of others to talk candidly about the band and how it gained traction.

Kid Rock!
Amid the wine and revelry of that first evening, Godwin and Verlander wrote their first song, set to the tune of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit. " They performed it at a benefit to build a park in neighboring Moss Beach. The lyrics went something like: This is Moss Beach/ Build a park here/ It's less dangerous/ Get your checkbook.

Nirvana Box Set
So I've been digging through this new Nirvana box set for the past couple weeks or so. It's cool because there really is a whole lot of shit on there that I would imagine hardly anybody has heard before. The thing about it though is that the vast majority of the new shit is poorly recorded solo acoustic demos made by Kurt in his bedroom or basement or whatever.
